What are the passport photo requirements?

Passport photos must be:
* In color
* Taken within the last 6 months.
* 2”x2” with a white background showing a full frontal view of the face.
Failing to meet these requirements can delay your application and result in your application being denied. We highly recommend to have your photo professionally taken by a passport photographer. We do offer photo service in our office.

Can you wear eyeglasses on the photo?

Because having your glasses on when taken in photo might cause a glare which is not acceptable in a passport photo.

Will I get my old passport back when I apply for renewal?

Yes, the State department will cancel the old passport and we will return it with your new passport. You will get back all original documentation submitted to us as part of the passport application process.

Will I get my original birth certificate or naturalization certificate back when I apply for a new passport?

Yes, the State department will return your original birth certificate or naturalization certificate along with the new passport. You will get back all original documentation that you provide to us during the passport application process.

My passport has been damaged. Can I still use it?

If your passport has been significantly damaged, particularly on the page bearing your photo and biographical information, you must apply for a renwal. Please do not discard the damaged passport as it is required for the process and will greatly streamline your application of having a replacement passport issued.

My passport will expire in less than 6 months. Can I still use it for travel?

A valid passport is by definition a valid passport. However, most countries require that your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your arrival. You should replace your passport at least six months prior to its expiration date to avoid unnecessary difficulties with your destination country.

Can my passport application be denied?

Yes, it can. These are some of the reasons why your passport application can be denied:
- Outstanding child support.
- Outstanding felony / criminal warrant (not parking tickets or civil infractions).
- Prior felony conviction that prohibits international travel.
- Serious tax delinquencies.

My previous passport was issued more than 15 years ago. Can I apply for a renewal?

In this case, you can’t apply for a passport renewal. You have to submit a new passport application. Please see New Passport Requirements.

Does a child require a passport to travel?

Yes. Anyone who travels to a country that requires a passport for admittance must have their own passport, including minor children. There are specialized documentation requirements associated with obtaining a passport for children. If you are a divorced parent – you will need the notarized permission of your former spouse or the court. Please see our requirements page about obtaining passports for children under 16.
